Q: Is there a way to bypass the Time Master splash screen, so I can make data entry even quicker than it already is?

A: Apple allows us to *display* a Splash screen while the program is "loading". If we didn't display a splash screen, it would still take as long and would just have a black screen. Please keep in mind that this is a very complex program, it takes time to prepare the data, be aware of any timers that may have been running when you quit the program and more. It is only up there for the time necessary to launch the app. We don't *delay* launching the program what-so-ever.

Q: I cannot figure out how to start the timers. What am I missing?

A: On the first Time Entries screen, under the "Time" column (or you may have switched it to Value, Start or Stop), the boxes in that column will be green (for today's entries) or grey (for past entries). Tap on the green/grey box to start the timer on that row.

Q: If I quit the application, will the timers keep running?

A: Yes, the timers will keep running. You will notice a little red circle with the number of running timers on it on the upper right corner of the icon. It works the same way as the Mail icon.

Q: I work for a law firm and we our billing increment is 1/10th of an hour. Is there an easy way to do this?

A: Yes, what you want to do is go to the "Setup" tab and select "Rounding". Set your rounding to "Up" and set the minutes value to 6.

Q: I would like it if when I select "Last Week" in the Report tab that it would show me the days from Monday thru Sunday, but instead shows me Sunday thru Saturday.

A: In the Setup tab, select "Week Starts" and choose "Monday". This will now work with the week from Monday thru Sunday.

Q: Does Time Master work with foreign currencies?

A: Yes. We use currency symbol based on the Country code your device is set for. When we export the data, say into a spreadsheet, we do not export any currency symbols, but only the numbers. This keeps the data simple so that you can perform calculations on the data.

For the Optional Invoice Module, the currency symbol will default to what your "Country" code defines in the "Settings" app, General -> International -> Region Format.

As of Time Master version 2.8, we will now localize the number delimeters, so you should have the correct period and comma placement within the number.

Q: I would like to have a CSV export of my data via email, is this possible?

A: Yes, starting with iPhone OS 3.0 and Time Master 2.0 (or greater) they now allow us to have "email attachments" and send yourself a CSV attachment. You can change this in the Setup -> Reports -> Format setting and set to "HTML and CSV" or just "CSV". Note that you can also Backup your data using Time Master Central (over Wi-Fi) and then use the Backup file to Export a CSV file directly on your Mac or PC (although this fuction is being depricated and will be removed in some future version).

Troubleshooting

Q: I'm sending the Report email with CSV attachment but the text is mangled when I receive the email. What can I do?

A: We have confirmed that the Yahoo mail server mangles the email and kills the attachment when emailing from the iPhone using Yahoo. There are two workarounds for this. 1) Email "From" a different server or 2) Use the "Compress Archive" option. From the Setup -> Reports -> Compress Archive, if checked, will turn the attachment into a Zip file. You will then be able to "save" the zip attachment.

Q: I'm trying to purchase the Invoice (or Quickbooks) module, as an "In App Purchase", but I get the error message "Environment Sandbox - When I say buy and enter my Itunes pass, it says "This is not a test user account. Please create a new account in the Sandbox environment." What does this mean?

A: There seems to be an issue trying to install "In App Purchases" when your phone is Jailbroken. You probably have a program called "AppSync" that prevents this from working correctly. You will need to remove AppSync, purchase the module and then reinstall AppSync. Here is a thread on the topic. http://getsatisfaction.com/

Q: When I export my CSV report and import it into Excel, there is a blank line between each row. Why is this happening?

A: We think that some email programs are trying to be too smart for their own good. On a Windows machine the line terminination is CRLF (Carriage Return, Line Feed). On the Mac it is just LF. In some email programs it thinks the file is coming from a Mac and is adding a CR, so you get a CRCRLF. It should be checking that there is no CR before the LF and ignoring it if it does. So if you set it to "Mac", it then adds the CR, which in the end makes it work with that program.

So what you will need to go into the Setup -> Reports and change "File Format" to "Mac" (instead of Windows) and now when it converts the file, it should work just fine.

Q: I cannot get back to the main Time Entries screen. What should I do?

A: Please update to the latest version of Time Master. It is a free update from the App Store.

With version 1.4 or earlier, there was a bug in the iPhone OS 3.x that you may encounter where after you hit the "Save" or "Time Entries" (back button), it will not go back properly to the main screen. What you need to do is TAP on the "Time Entries" tab button (lower left) a few times. This will bring it back to the main screen. This goes for any of the tab windows on the device.

Q: I installed the Time Master Central desktop application, but cannot see my device in the list of devices.

A: First make sure that Time Master is RUNNING and AWAKE on your iPhone/iPod Touch. It must be running in order for Time Master Central to see it. If it's running and your still don't see it then continue reading.

So far when people have reported this, we've discovered that they are not using Wi-Fi. The only way that Apple allows us to 'talk' to the iPhone / iPod Touch is via a local Wi-Fi network. It would have been great if they allowed us to use the USB cable, but unfortunately they do not.

If you do have it on your local Wi-Fi connection and it's not working, email us and we'll go from there. We have seen a weird issue with our old D-Link wireless router, where when both the iPhone and Laptop are on Wi-Fi, they cannot see each other. If the laptop is connected to the local ethernet connection, then it works. This is some issue with the D-Link and it's possible that other routers may have this issue. We did not experience this problem with our Linksys router.

Also note that if your device has been asleep awhile, it may take 30 seconds, or so, for it to re-attach to the Wi-Fi network. Make sure the Wi-Fi "waves" are in place and not the "3G" or "E" symbol.

Q: I launch Time Master and it shows the splash screen, but then quits. What do I do?

A: This indicates that your device is low on memory. This is a very common problem on the iPhone and iPod Touch, where after awhile applications and the system leak enough memory, that memory intensive applications, such as Time Master cannot launch.

What you need to do is "reboot" your device. Hold down the power key for about 5 seconds. You should see a prompt that says "Slide to power off". Slide the control to "shutdown" the device. After the screen has gone completely black for a several seconds, you should be able to press the power button to "boot" the device again. After it is back up and running you should be able to run the applications without a problem.

Q: Time Master Central is very slow to find my device and sometimes it doesn't show up, or the Backup screen doesn't show up. Any clues?

A: We have received emails from a couple users regarding Time Master Central on Windows. We figured out one issue that may help some of you that might be having problems. On Windows, in some instances, there is a huge time delay for the iPhone / iPod Touch to show up in the Devices list. Then when you click on the device, the "Backup" box does not show right away, sometimes taking several minutes. We discovered that there is an issue with Apple's Bonjour (plug and play app) on Windows. We've learned that if you "Repair" Bonjour it seems to work properly again. Here are the steps for Windows XP and Vista.

Windows Vista:
Start -> Control Panel
In the "Programs" section, click on the "Uninstall a program" link.
Select "Bonjour"
Click on "Change" button on top (do not click on the Repair button on the menu next to it).
On the window that pop's up, click "Repair"
Finish

Windows XP:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Click on "Add or Remove Programs"
Select "Bonjour"
Click the "Change" button
Click "Repair"
Finish

If that still doesn't work, then send us an email and we'll try to go from there!

Q: After I install Time Master Central for Windows I get the error message “The operation could not be completed” (NSPOSIXErrorDomain error 183)”. What does this mean and how do I fix this?

A: We see this error when your "Documents" or "My Documents" folder is on a remote hard-drive (networked server). We have fixed this issue with Time Master Central 2.x and greater. Please download and install the latest version.
