*some* attachments not being emailed
« on: November 30, 2015, 10:27:53 am »
i'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this one.  I've been using time matters for years and on both ios and android to invoice clients.

sometime over the last several months, the occasional invoice will be emailed out, and the client will report that they did not receive an attachment connected to the email. there is no indication on my end that this has happened, and i'm not having issues emailing attachments from any other programs.

it's not happening all the time, but it's a pretty big deal for me.  both because i like to get paid for my work, and because i'm the tech consultant who apparently can't even send an invoice  :o

any thoughts?  could this somehow be related to my invoice export issues on the ios version?

thanks for your time and an excellent product.

We have not heard of this issue before for Android.  Can you try to check in the Mail app on the device.  e.g. "Gmail" and see if it is in either the "Sent" or "Outbox" (outbox probably means it failed for some reason).  You should see it in either one of the two places.

the messages are being sent, and they are being received.  what is happening is that the attachments are not being sent.  the attachments show in the sent mail, but when i log into to my mail server via imap, those specific messages do not show as having attachments.  it is very strange behavior.

if i send the mail via the gmail app, instead of the mail app, they seem to send properly.

this is a recent (last few months) issue.

That is odd indeed.  When we first had the iOS version, we did see that some email Clients would sometimes mangle attachments, but not drop them.  I'm not sure how you could tell if it is the sending app on the Android, the email server or the receiving email client.  I suppose you could Cc yourself on all the emails and see if they have attachments when they are sent to you too.  If they do, and your client does not, it would indicate an issue with their email client and the Android sending app.  On the other hand, it sounds like your server may be deleting the attachments before sending them out?

i suppose that's possible, but seems unlikely to me.  i run the mail server, so i'll poke through the logs and see if there's anything odd in there.

i think i'll try using a different imap client for my next billing and see if it makes a difference.

thanks
