column headers
« on: May 26, 2010, 03:12:45 pm »
hi there,

i'd just like to say once again how much i love time master and the invoicing addon.  so very worth the money, as it has made one of the most painful parts of my job a breeze!

i did have a problem come up recently, though.  Because i rarely, if ever, bill for expenses, the column headers on the invoices are a bit problematic for me.  Specifically, i recently had a client send me a cheque for my hourly rate.  i believe the reason for this is that she looked at the invoice, and given that this invoice only had a single entry, she saw "Amount" and paid that.

In my situation, the columns labeled "Quantity" and "Amount" are a bit misleading.  If possible, i would love to be able to change those to "Hours" and "Rate."

I understand how this would be useful for those doing expense billing, but it doesn't seem to be properly descriptive for hourly billing.

thoughts?

thanks,

d.

Hey Dave,

The problem is that people do need to bill for expenses upon occasion.  We need to keep the labels short and they are "localized" for different languages.  Unfortunately I guess you will have to teach this person how to read a standard invoice.  Just about every invoice I've ever seen has the Invoice Total on the bottom left, so I'm amazed that she picked a number out of the middle of the page.  Doh!    ???

Cheers,
Adam.

thanks for the reply, adam.

i understand that a lot of people need to charge for expenses.  however, i'm generally not one of them :)

this specific instance aside, i guess it's always annoyed me to have it labeled that way.  what can ya do, eh?

well, after reading your reply, it seems to me that i could change a language file to make this work. how difficult would it be?  i've dealt with localization in other systems and programs, but never with the iphone.  do you just access a system-wide language system, or can it be done for individual programs?

not the end of the world for me, of course, but it'd be nice.

cheers,

d.

It's not possible to edit the localization files.  If you did, Apple's "code signing" would prevent the app from working.

Although I wish we could add everyone's wishes, it's not always possible.  We are still trying to balance the flexibility vs. ease of use and it's getting harder and harder.  And yes, there are even more changes coming!
