Font problem when opening invoice
« on: April 23, 2010, 06:38:17 pm »
When I email my customers an invoice, they open it and get an error about a Font problem.  This is the one I received on my latest invoice:  "Cannot extract the embedded font 'BTYEHH+Verdana'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."  Is there a way I can change the default Font to, for example Times New Roman?  I know this is a more common font than Verdana and it might solve the problem.  I know you recommend that I have my customers install FireFox to get the Font needed.  But I was just wondering if there would be in later releases an option to set a different font?

Thanks for your help.

And just to let you know, I love the product ;D, this is exactly what I needed for my business, and helped me justify getting the IPad.  :D THANKS!

There are only (if I remember correctly) 11 fonts on the iPhone.  We tried every single font as we had problems, when we were testing it, of people not being able to see anything other than a bunch of bullets for the text.  We finally settled on Verdana because it is one of the most common fonts use by web browsers.  Most of the other fonts are not available on both Macs and Windows.  Because of this we based all the sizing off of the Verdana font.  The values for the different sizes would not work for most of the other fonts and would mess things up if we allowed changing of the fonts.  Since the Verdana font will get installed by Firefox, if the user doesn't have it, we felt that this was the only real solution for the lack of fonts on the iPhone.  We initially had used the Times font and a few Windows users could not match the font and had bullets for every letter, making it totally unreadable.  So sadly, you will have to ask your client to install Firefox and see if that fixes their issue.

Please let us know if you get this worked out by installing Firefox or some other method for installing the Verdana font?

We had to write a "hack" for this in Time Master 3.0.  Unfortunately Apple was going in the right direction with their PDF generator, but they only did 1/2 of what is needed and in iOS 4.0, they BROKE this even worse.  Our "hack" will fix the problems in the PDF documents and should fix the issue with the iPad OS and iOS 4 when it comes out.  We just hope that when they do actually fix this that it won't break our hack.  If it does we will get a fixed version out ASAP.  The ironic thing is that when Apple was asked about the PDF issue using their SDK (Software Development Kit), they said, well you should use some 3rd party PDF generator instead of ours because ours is broken.   :P   Go figure?!?!
