Duration on invoice
« on: September 21, 2011, 03:41:13 pm »
Is there a way to add duration to each time entry when generating an invoice. I am an attorney and bill by the tenth of the hour. I would like the duration to show up like the start and stop time, that is, in the "description" column under each entry.

For example:

Project: Frank Matter
Task: Draft rely to discovery request
[notes, if any entered]
3.8

Is that possible?

Hi Chris,

The Duration only shows up in the Duration column.  You should have your "Global Rounding" set to "Up" and "6 minutes".  That will always give you durations of 10 minutes in your Time Entries.  Since 1/10 of an hour always gives a low resolution number, you can also drop the "Fractional Digits" to 2 decimal places instead of 4 (4 is needed for almost everything else).  Hope that helps?

Hi Adam,

That's not quite the question I was asking.  I don't think I was clear enough. I know to set up the rounding for time entries and can get duration in **reports** but I want duration included in the PDF invoice that is automatically generated by using "Generate Invoice" in the invoice module.  I've been in the setup for invoices, and can add and remove lots of the headings, but duration is not an option I see to change.  Adding a "duration" column to the PDF invoice would be perfect.

Hi Chris,

The duration is a column on the invoice.  It is the column called "Quantity".  That will have either the "Duration" of a Time Entry or the "Amount" of an Expense.  Since it can contain either, we have to be generic with the wording, thus Quantity.
