Invoice PDF print - no colour
« on: May 02, 2011, 03:52:53 am »
Hi

This is a great product!

However, I have a weird problem with invoices. I print in A4 size and used a 210mm x 40mm (less than 15% page height) png image at 300dpi for the header. The header graphic is attached.

The image displays great on the iphone and also on my laptop when I email it out. However, when I print there is no colour - all grey shades and the text looks fuzzy.

I can print colour pdf's OK and if I print the same image from Photoshop its in colour so I'm suspecting something weird with the pdf format in the app. Any ideas please?

It should print in color.  I mailed myself a PDF and then printed it on my color printer with no issues.  Perhaps you need to check you computer's Print Settings to make sure that you have not turn color printing off.  There is usually a setting to turn off color printing so you don't use the more expensive color inks.

Thanks Adam but I can print other pdf's in colour on my printer no problem. It's only the pdf invoice that has a problem yet it displays on screen in colour just fine.

I just took your logo and created a new company.  Created an invoice and emailed it to myself.  Then I opened the PDF and did a print and it printed in color on my printer.  The only thing I can think of is that you have some problem with your printer driver.  We don't do anything special in the PDF.  The image you created just gets "included" into the PDF document as is.

Ok thanks Adam - I'll play around with the printer settings on pdf print.

By the way, did the smaller text on the logo you printed look sharp? To me, it looks fuzzy compared to printing the original photoshop file so I'm wondering if I sized the graphic correctly. Since I'm using A4 I thought it should be full width at 210mm and 40mm high. I wondered if it might work better if I set it up for full width US legal and then let the app do the scaling?

Nope, looks sharp as a knife on my color laser printer.

Hi Adam

Still struggling with the header image resolution. My logo is 2480px x 472px at 300ppi. This should give me an A4 width image on the invoice at good resolution. On screen, the pdf invoice still looks looks blurry and the print is the same. I've attached a sample invoice for your inspection.

Yes, that does look quite fuzzy.  The image that you posted up earlier worked just fine for me and printed very well.  What I'm wondering is how you are getting it into Time Master?  What I suggest is that you take that PNG file and Email it to yourself.  Do NOT sync the picture with iTunes and grab it from the Photo library, as that will severely degrade it!  Once it's on your device in the email, tap-and-hold on the PNG file.  Then Copy.  Now go into Time Master in to the Header section and double tap so that you can Paste it in.  That will maintain the original resolution.
